The New Bionic Woman

Another superhero appears in Hollywood. Definitely no stranger but played by a new face. It’s another remake or revival of a classic TV series. The superhero is Bionic Woman and the title role of Jamie Sommers goes to Michelle Ryan.

Michelle Ryan is a British actress best known for her role in the British TV series “Eastenders”. She was with the show for 5 years until she left the production in 2005.

Bionic Woman was a spin off of the TV show “The Six Million Dollar Man” which starred Lee Majors. It ran from 1976 to 1978 with Lindsay Wagner playing the title role. The character, Jamie Sommers, was a tennis player who suffered severe injuries in an accident. Her limbs and her ear were replaced with hi-tech robotic parts – yes, she was technically a cyborg. Bionic Woman can run very fast and lift cars, thanks to her cybernetic pieces.

Oprah’s Book Club Is Back

It has been a year since Oprah has recommended anything to her book club. Many speculate that she took a break from recommending books after she recommended the book of James Frey which turned out to be a work of fiction and not fact as he had claimed. Her choice to start of the new year and relaunch her book club: Sidney Poitier’s “Measure of a Man”.

The book was actually published in 2000. It was on the bestseller weeks for years and the audio book won Sydney Poitier a Grammy Award. It is a spiritual autobiography that largely talks of what makes the character of a man. He talks of his memories growing up, of plays, his views of racism and of great leaders such as Nelson Mandela and Mahatma Gandhi.

Sidney Poitier is a man much respected in Hollywood and is one of Oprah’s personal heroes. On her radio show, Oprah said,

�He writes really candidly and passionately about his childhood, his family, relationships and his extraordinary career,� Winfrey said on her show, which airs from Chicago. �It (the book) really is about what makes character, what makes you be who you are. He is the measure of one of the greatest men I think who has ever been on our planet.�

Oprah also said that she hadn’t had time the past year to really read books which was why she hadn’t been recommending any. She had been busy preparing the curriculum for her school. Now that she does have the time, she chose to recommend a book that she loves about a man she truly admires.

Oprah Is The Wealthiest Woman In Entertainment

She is called the Queen of Talk. Oprah is one of the most popular and most influential woman of the past two decades. Now she can add being the wealthiest woman in entertainment to the list as well.

According to Forbes.com, Oprah has earned an estimated $1.5 billion during her career which got her the top spot. JK Rowling took second place at $1 billion while Martha Stewart came in third with $638 million.

It is nice to note though that Oprah’s money has not gone to her head. She may have become rich but she still has her head on straight and has kept a generous heart; which is why people love her.

Who else made the list of the Top 20 Wealthiest Women in Entertainment? Oh, there were a bunch of actresses and singers. There were a couple of models thrown in as well. Oh, and there was another talk show host as well. The celebrities in the top 20 are:

Julia Roberts Expecting Child No. 3

Actress Julia Roberts, 39, and husband cameraman Danny Moder, 37, are now expecting their third child. This news is definitely making the actress very happy who has expressed a desire for a large family. Roberts is expected to give birth in the summer.

Roberts and Moder met on the set of “The Mexican” and married in July, 2002. The couple has a pair of twins – PhinnaeusWalter and Hazel Patricia – who are now two years old. Roberts had a difficult pregnancy then, needing bed rest after she’d experienced false labor. Hopefully this time around the pregnancy will be easier on the actress.

The Pretty Woman star is a very busy lady. She is expected to be part of two films scheduled for next year, 2007. These are “Charlie Wilson’s War” and “Friday Knitting Club”. With luck, this Oscar award winner will� be able to keep working throughout this pregnancy if she chooses.

Watch Trouble For Charlize Theron

Becoming a celebrity endorser is a simple matter. You wear what you are contracted to wear – which is usually given to you for free- for the specified amount of time. So what happens if you wear something from a rival brand? You get sued!

The lawsuit was filed in a New York court. It says that Theron signed an exclusive contract with Swiss watchmaker Raymond Weil. Her contract specified that from October 2005 to December 2006 Theron would wear only Weil watches at all times. Weil’s lawyers have evidence that Theron breached her contract in March of 2006 when she wore a Christian Dior watch in one of her ads for Dior perfumes.

Weil’s lawyers say that her contract also specified that “Furthermore, artist agrees that she will not endorse or advertise watches or jewelry for any other person, entity or company, including for charity.” Yet she modeled a necklace in April 2006 for Montblanc.

No amount has yet been specified or disclosed. It seems however to be a pretty solid case. Charlize really should have watched it.
