Tori’s Estate Sale

Tori Spelling.jpg You’ve got to hand it to Tori Spelling. She sure knows how to get media attention without resorting to showing off any body parts people would rather not see (unlike Paris Hilton, Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan). She just decided to have a yard sale – but it isn’t a yard sale like most of us know.

People lined up and got numbers to be able to enter the home of the Beverly Hills 90210 star. A mixture of neighbors, fans and the just plain curious showed up to either look around or actually buy the items for sale. There wasn’t much bargaining. Things were priced pretty low, selling for a lot cheaper than most people expected. The best part, people could pay in cash or by credit card.

Why in the world is she having a yard sale? She’s doing it for a number of reasons. First, after the will of her rich and famous father,Aaron Spelling, was read, she learned that she was given less than $1 million of his estate which is valued at $300 million. All the proceeds of the estate sale goes to Tori and not to some charity organization. With regular folks it would make sense to sell off some stuff to raise additional cash. By no means though would anyone describe Tori as someone cash strapped.

Next, she has a reality TV show called So NoTORIous. Tori and husband Dylan McDermott are moving overseas to open a bed and breakfast – which will be part of the show. They’ll be gone for about a year so looks like Tori figured better to give up the place and everything in it. The estate sale is an episode of the series. Normally they would need to hire so many extras to take part in a show but why hire extras if you can get people to volunteer and actually pay you to be part of the show. People were signing release forms as they entered the door otherwise they couldn’t go in.

Tori has also been heard to say that it is time to move on. Out with the old and in with the new seems to be a saying she has taken literally and to heart, much to the delight of her shoppers.

Gwyneth Insults Americans

It would seem that Gwyneth Paltrow has lost any love or respect she had for her own countrymen. When asked who she would pick to have a dinner date with, she didn’t name a single American. Now that’s okay, most would say. What isn’t okay is what she said after.

During her interview with Diario de Noticias, a daily Portuguese Newspaper, the Los Angeles born actress said, “I like living here because I don’t fit into the bad side of American psychology. The British are much more intelligent and civilized than the Americans”. She went on to say, “I love the English lifestyle, it’s not as capitalistic as America. People don’t talk about work and money; they talk about interesting things at dinner”.

Whatever inspired the actress to call her countrymen inferior is spreading a lot of anger in the United States. Less intelligent they may be in her eyes, they are smart enough to know that she insulted them and they don’t like it. Since her biggest fan base is from these “less civilized” people, her popularity has dropped a great deal. Calls from all over the country were coming in thick and fast to various radio stations saying that the US is far better off without her.

It could be that Paltrow’s words were taken out of context but it sure has agitated a lot of her countrymen. Whatever their shortcomings, many Americans feel that these comments were most uncivilized.

Paltrow lives in London with her husband, Coldplay singer Chris Martin, and her two kids.

The Hollywood Christmas Parade

It has been seventy five years since it was first thought of. It was a simple parade that was intended to help bring business to Hollywood Boulevard. After three quarters of a century it is now a tradition that has attracted about half a million spectators, creating a bigger crowd than that at the Academy Awards.

This year the Hollywood Christmas Parade there are 16 floats. Michael Bolton, some cast members of High School Musical and various marching bands from different parts of the United States will take part in this event. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce says that this will be their biggest show ever – as it should be since it is the 75th anniversary of the event.

This year’s Grand Marshal is Comedian George Lopes and Honorary Grand Marshal is Regis Philbin. They have quite a task ahead of them. It is the job of the Grand Marshal to attract big name celebrities to the event. The previous years show that that isn’t an easy task to do these days. You won’t see Brad Pitt or Angelina Jolie in the parade though some wish they would.

Back in the 1920’s it was simply called the Santa Claus Lane Parade. Santa rode in a one reindeer sleigh with a Hollywood star waving to the crowd beside him. The first actress to star in the parade was Jeanette Loff. Now there is no more reindeer, just a lot of floats and some stars and hopefully a lot of fun and music.
Among the stars who have taken part in the parade are Bing Crosby, Mary Pickford, Ronald and Nancy Reagan, James Stewart, Danny Thomas, Stevie Wonder and Lawrence Welk. Former Grand Marshals include Sammy Davis Jr., Charlton Heston, Bob and Dolores Hope, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans and even Mickey and Minnie Mouse.

The parade has expanded to accommodate the increased number of spectators. It now travels along Sunset Boulevard as well as Hollywood Boulevard. Don’t worry though if you are too far away to catch the parade. It gets both national and international coverage so you can catch it from the comfort of your home.

TomKat Wedding A No Go?

The ring has been chosen. Georgio Armani is making the bride a whole wardrobe of clothes. The bride has lost all the weight from giving birth to her beautiful baby, Suri. The castle is booked (if it is indeed in Italy). The date has been set but it looks like the wedding of celebrities Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes won’t be real.

No, it isn’t because one of them has backed out. As far as anyone knows the happy couple is excited to pledge their troth. They have not cancelled any of their wedding plans.

No, the problem seems to be in Italy. Katie Holmes was raised Catholic so understandably she wants a Catholic marriage. Unfortunately, there are two obstacles in their way. The first problem being that Tom Cruise has been married twice before. His first marriage was to Mimi Rogers. That one lasted three years. He got divorced and later married Nicole Kidman. This time it lasted 11 years. Looks like Cruise was hoping third time would be the charm but forgot that there is no such thing as divorce in the Catholic church.

The second problem is the fact that Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes do not have the authorization from the parish where their marriage is supposed to take place. Without this authorization the wedding would not be binding says Monsignor Nicola Fiorentini, the parish priest at the Santa Maria Novella Church in Bracciano.

If they are planning to have a civil ceremony, they haven’t filed any of the necessary paperwork needed either says mayor Patrizia Riccioni. Those would be necessary even for a rich and famous couple. There is always paperwork for someone getting married, local or international, or it won’t be binding.

So, what have we here? Looks like the breadcrumbs are leading to the wrong gingerbread house. Keep in mind that Tom Cruise announced that Katie Holmes has embraced Scientology. Why would she get married in a Catholic way if she has already embraced a new faith? It may even be held closer to home and sooner than people think.

Warren Beatty Is the DeMille Awardee for 2007

Warren Beatty has been chosen to receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award for Lifetime Achievement. It will be given to him on January 15, 2007 during the 64th annual Golden Globe Awards. The DeMille awardee is chosen by the Board of Directors of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
The 69 year old actor has already received five Golden Globes including:

Best actor in a comedy – Heaven Can Wait
Best producer of a comedy or musical (twice) – Heaven Can Wait and Bugsy
Best Director – Reds
Most Promising Newcomer for 1962

Previous recipients of this award include Michael Douglas in 2004, Harrison Ford in 2002, Gene Hackman in 2003, Anthony Hopkins in 2006, Barbra Streisand in 2000 and Robin Williams in 2005.

The nominees for the 64th Golden Globe Awards won’t be announced until Thursday, Dec 14, 2006. NBC will be broadcasting the Award ceremony from the Beverly Hilton’s ballroom in January.

Though no nominees have been confirmed yet, a lot of people feel that a possible recipient of a Golden Globe is Annette Bening, Warren Beatty’s wife. Her performance as the lead in Running With Scissors has generated quite a buzz. It will be nice if both husband and wife bring home awards.

Warren Beatty and Annette Bening met in 1991, on the set of Bugsy. They married the year later. Now they have 4 kids. Their eldest, Kathlyn is 14. Their son Benjamin is 12. The younger girls are Isabel who is 9 and Ella who is 6.
