Car accidents do not exempt anyone including celebrities. When speed limit and other vital factors are taken for granted, road mishaps are likely to happen.
On a global level, nearly 1.3 million people get killed in road crashes every year and an additional 20 to 50 million are injured or disabled. In the U.S., the figure is more than 37,000 fatalities each year.
Among celebrities, there had been quite a number who got involved in car accidents in the recent past with some of them getting killed.
Paul Walker
Who could ever forget the latest car crash involving actor Paul Walker that shocked the world? The 40-year-old Fast and Furious star was a passenger of his friend, financial adviser and professional race car driver Roger Rodas on board a Porsche Carrera GT when the car rammed into a light pole and exploded in Los Angeles, California. Rodas was reportedly driving very fast and lost control of the sports car on that fateful day of November 30th, 2013. He and Walker died immediately on impact.
Princess Diana
Princess Diana was only 36 years old when got killed in a car accident in August 1997. The vehicle she was riding on was cruising at a fast speed at the Pont de l’Alma road tunnel in Paris, France during that time when the driver, Henri Paul, lost control of the car. The Princess of Wales was said to be avoiding the paparrazzi at that particular moment and the driver was said to be under the influence of alcohol. She sustained serious injuries that eventually led to her death.
Ryan Dunn
Comedian, actor and musician Ryan Dunn died in a car accident in June 2011 reportedly due to driving under the influence of alcohol. The Jackass star crashed his Porsche 911 into a guardrail and exploded. Police reports noted that Dunn’s alcohol level at that time was more than twice the legal limit and he was also overspeeding. His passenger Zachary Hartwell was also killed in that mishap.
Lisa Lopes
It was in 2002 when singer Lisa Lopes got killed in Honduras. She was then driving a rental car that veered off the road. Unfortunately, Lopes failed to use her seatbelt and was thrown off from the vehicle during the accident.
Linda Lovelace
Adult film icon Linda Lovelace also died in a car accident in April 2002. The star of Deep Throat sustained fatal injuries and was on life support for some time. She died in Denver, Colorado.
Randy Savage
Rapper and professional wrestler Randy Savage died in May 2011 after suffering from a heart attack which led him to lose control of the vehicle he was driving at that time. Also known as the Macho Man, Savage was 58 at that time.
