Celebrities attend many award shows, opening nights, charity galas and other events where everyone pays attention to fashion, but the Vera Wang, Michael Kors and Hugo Boss numbers can be hard to remember after a while. They might wow crowds on the big night, but being memorable for the right reasons is difficult. Here are a few outfits that still stand out at the end of the year.
Taylor’s Transition to Pop Star
Taylor Swift had no shortage of fabulous outfits to choose from as she made People’s Best Dressed List in 2014, but her outfit at the MTV Video Music Awards was especially memorable because the singer wanted to promote her new album “1989” and emphasize that she was no longer a country singer. Her Mary Katrantzou romper gave off the right impression as it was bold, fun and perfect for the pop star who graced the VMA stage to perform “Shake It Off.”
Gorgeous Gala Gown
Blake Lively is another beauty who People thought was one of the best dressed stars of 2014, but Lively’s accomplishment is particularly impressive because the TV and movie star reportedly does not use a stylist. Being fashion forward seems difficult, and furriers note that there are different care requirements when dressing in leather and fur. However, Lively makes it all look easy. She selected one of the most stunning dresses of 2014 on her own when she wore a Gucci gown to the Met Gala.
Let’s Hear it For the Boys
Frankie Grande is an entertainer and social media mogul who was a fan favorite and frequent competition winner on “Big Brother 16,” and the pink haired, openly gay performer knows how to turn heads. He made the most of an opportunity to interview guests on the red carpet at the American Music Awards when he wore a painted-on shirt that included a sparkly artistic rendering of his signature pink bow tie. Though he was relatively unknown compared to some celebrities at the AMAs, everyone wanted to meet him by the end of the night.
Celebrities have enough money and access to professional stylists to truly go all out for Halloween, but no one has been able to beat Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka since they started dressing the whole family in matching costumes. The family chose to represent Gotham City this year, and the children looked fierce dressed as Batman and Batgirl respectively. Harris posed as a somber Riddler in the family photo he later posted to Twitter while Burkta was a delightfully maniacal Joker.
New Face in the Fashion World
She was not a big name a few years ago, but no one has been able to stop talking about Lupita Nyong’o since seeing her performance in “12 Years a Slave.” Fashion lovers also gush about the actress since her sense of style always seems impeccable. Her outfit at the Oscars made her look like a goddess in blue, and the Prada gown was elegant and flowing while still being sexy because of a plunging neckline and back.
