When love doesn’t get you through, you find that relationships are about much more than just a four-letter-word. In Hollywood, couples face a unique set of challenges.
The average length of a relationship in the limelight isn’t quite the same as a relationship under a more “normal” set of circumstances.
Due to the visible nature of a Hollywood relationship, many end. Take a look at some of the most notable Hollywood LGBTQ couples who weren’t able to make the cut.
Jane Lynch & Laura Embry
Jane Lynch is an extremely influential figure in the LGBTQ community. She’s well-known for her role in Glee and the lesbian phenomenon show The “L” word. Director, producer, and clinical psychologist, Laura Embry met Lynch in 2009.
The couple quickly tied the knot and began a short-lived marriage that lasted only three years. LGBTQ divorces don’t discriminate when it comes down to the real issues. The couple’s divorce was reportedly centered around money, as Lynch got stuck with the bill to the tune of just over a million dollars.
Melissa Etheridge & Tammy Lynn Etheridge
Famed singer, Melissa Etheridge, and her long-time partner Tammy Lynn had domestic bliss in check for more than nine years. They had two children during their time together.
When the couple decided to call it quits in 2012, the divorce was reportedly not pretty. There were arguments over custody of the children and other financial issues.
Rosie O’Donnell & Michelle Rounds
Rosie O’Donnell has tried this thing called marriage more than once in the past. In the early 2000s, she married Kelli Carpenter. The two lived happily ever after for around five years and filed for divorce in 2009.
Rosie tried the marriage thing again a few years later, and that union ultimately ended in tragedy. Rosie’s second wife, Michelle Rounds, tragically ended her own life not long after the couple’s divorce was sorted.
David Tutera & Ryan Jurica
Famed wedding planner, David Tutera, married Ryan Jurica, and they had twins together with the help of a surrogate. As the divorce ensued after a decade of marriage, the two fought over custody of the children.
In the end, the two chose to split the fraternal twins and raise them separately. As of now, the two children have never met one another.
Robin Tyler & Diane Olson
Robin Tyler is a well-known gay rights activist who married another woman known for the same work named Diane Olson. Throughout their years of partnered activism, the couple tried seven times to acquire a legal marriage license before ever being granted the right to marry.
The couple called it quits after being together for nearly two decades. However, Diane Olson passed away at the age of 65 in the comfort of the couple’s longtime home.
