Every year the world faces the loss of some of their favorite celebrities to drug and alcohol addiction. From Heath Ledger to Whitney Houston, famous people often struggle with addiction. Often their struggles are different than those of the general public, since their jobs can often put excess pressure on them, as well as fans and the paparazzi.
To help you understand a little bit more about the struggles of celebrities, from actors to musicians, here are some of the things that may or may not affect their lives and their decisions to drink and do drugs.
The Pressure
Celebrities are under a ton of pressure. Movie stars must vie for parts, memorize lines, deal with angry filmmakers, changing plots, and the pressure of things like sex scenes. Often they put themselves deep into their roles, even letting the darkness take control of them.
Even musicians have a lot of pressure, with endless touring and recording. Once celebrity status hits both actors and musicians will find a huge fan base and journalists chasing them around. It can be a very stressful life to live. Drugs and alcohol seem like a good way to relieve that pressure most of the time.
The Money
Celebrities have money, and sometimes when they are looking for things to spend that money on, or they are having a bad day, drugs can seem like a good investment to them. They help relieve the pressure and they can seem like a good way to self medicate, even though they aren’t.
Between the pressure and the money it can often be easy to get lost in the world of drugs and alcohol and addiction is a hard thing to fight. If they don’t find help right away and get themselves back on a good path death can be just around the corner.
Learning From Their Mistakes
People have a habit of idolizing the rich and famous, even when they are on the wrong path, with drugs and addiction. Instead of falling into the same downfalls as them though fan of celebrities that have either struggled with addiction or died because of it really should use that knowledge to help learn from their mistakes.
Drugs and alcohol are not the answer. Even if you have the money there are much healthier things to spend it on. When things get tough don’t self medicate, instead, find someone to talk to. Get a therapist, and seek help when drugs and alcohol become a must in your life.
Celebrities aren’t the only ones that get addicted, and they aren’t the only people that suffer from the pressures of life. However, because of their fame you hear more about their issues than you do about the struggles of the common man.
