Taylor Swift is a country music singer who is best known for her songs that relate stories about bad boyfriend break-ups. She recently decided to build a seawall in front of her $17.7 million mansion, for which she paid in cold, hard cash.
The new construction has enraged her neighbors in Watch Hill, Rhode Island, and they want her out.
Oh look, a seawall!
A beachfront home is more than the average American can afford. Adding an expensive seawall border to the property is a move that probably would occur only to a wealthy celebrity. Swift, who is only 24 years old, did just that.
The large seawall runs along on the outer perimeter of her Rhode Island getaway residence. Construction of the project came as a bit of a shock to her neighbors.
Residents of the local community have used the stretch along the oceanfront for many years. Some used to catch fish here, ride the surf, or just relax during nice summer days.
Now that large boulders are blocking the beach, local residents will no longer be able to visit this area, let alone relax there.
Richard Bishop has been fishing along this strip of coast since 1961, when he moved to the area. He can’t even watch the construction work take place because Swift has also hired security guards to clear the area. She has beefed up security patrols because just two days after she purchased the home, it was broken into.
The Watch Hill community
Watch Hill, where the home is located, has long been known for its wealthy residents. The singer has brought fame to the area, though, which makes it even more attractive to rich Americans looking for a home.
This could have an impact on why she was allowed to do the construction. Swift didn’t get the proper permits to do the remodel, and Mr. Bishop is so angry that he said he might sell his home and move to another area.
Ideas for a new song?
Fans might get a new song out of this incident. Swift is known for composing songs that detail various experiences in her life. One, “I Knew You Were Trouble,” is a song about a boyfriend about whom Taylor had a funny feeling before the relationship even began.
This is how David Collins is describing the situation with Taylor Swift. Collins is a writer who recently apologized to Swift for writing negative comments about her. Shortly before the end of the 2013, he wrote a article in a Connecticut newspaper that accused Taylor Swift of closing off the beach to her neighbors.
Collins suggested Taylor Swift might feel badly if she knew everything that was happening with the construction. The project was aimed at repairing damage to the seawall from Hurricane Sandy. Ultimately, Swift cannot buy her way into limiting public access to any part of the beach.
In the meantime, Swift is working on a new album that is expected to be released in 2014. Perhaps she got some ideas for songs to go on the new CD.
