Its come as no big surprise that Johnny Depp’s latest appearance as the weird and wonderful Jack Sparrow the pirate in Buena Vista Pictures’ Pirates of the Caribbean 2: Dead Man’s Chest has been a massive success on its second weekend since release. The summer blockbuster has already set the year’s record earnings of over $258 Million and counting. However, this gargantuan amount does not quite match even bigger sales last year when the same weekend in 2005 saw even bigger box-office hits with Warner Bros. Pictures’ “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and New Line Cinema’s “The Wedding Crashers.” Produced by uber-producer Jerry Bruckheimer famous for his no-holds-barred action scenes as well as nail-biting tv smashes (like Amazing Race and CSI) , the Disney theme park ride-based film is an epic adventure on the high-seas with even more surprises than the first installment, like a cameo appearance by Keith Richards as Captain Jack’s dad.
Deemed ?a sure thing? in terms of box-office glory, the Pirates movies are now in the process of filming the third installment which is due to be released on Memorial Day weekend next year. Johnny Depp, married to French singer Vanessa Paradis and now makes his home in France, will of course will be back for this, claiming that the part of Captain Jack is one he?ll be very sad to part with: ??..I just feel like I’m not done. I just feel like there are more things you could do with a character like this?so there are more possibilities I think. And he’s a fun character to play. I was really not looking forward to saying goodbye to him.?
