We’ve all seen the photos that our favourite celebrities post on social media. They seem to look perfect. But then we also see images that paparazzi get of our favourite celebrities, where they might not be looking so great. So how is it that celebs seem to be able to always get great images to post of themselves on social media while you might struggle to get a picture you’re not completely embarrassed about?
To help you get your images to look a bit more like theirs, here are three tips for taking better pictures to post on social media.
Make Sure The Lighting Is Right
One of the first things you have to understand about taking great photos of yourself is lighting. Without proper lighting, even the most beautiful of people can look less than that.
When trying to get the right lighting, you’ll want to avoid anything that’s too bright or too dark. You’ll also want to steer clear of lighting that’s coming from directly above you, so move out of the room with cove lighting to take your selfie. Ideally, you should try to use natural lighting whenever possible. The best times of the day to get outside for photos is early in the morning or later in the evening, just as the sun is rising or setting. This type of lighting will give you a great glow that you might not be able to capture any other way.
Try Various Angles
Another thing you’ll have to learn if you want to take photos like your favourite celebrity is how to work with your angles.
Depending on the shape of your face and the way the light is coming at you, the angles that you’ll want to use will vary. But until you learn what angles are going to be best for you, and they might feel a little uncomfortable at first, you’ll want to take a lot of different photos and see how they turn out. This trial and error can be a great way to learn more about your face and see what works for you.
Learn How To Edit Wisely
Basically, all images of celebrities, whether they took them themselves or not, have been edited. So to get the look that some celebs have, you’ll have to edit your photos, too.
One of the best rules when editing a photo is not overdoing the editing. You want the image to still look like you, just the best version of you. Often, the easiest way to do this is to add filters to the image, which will edit the image for you so you don’t have to make each change yourself and take the chance of overediting.
If you want to have more flattering images of yourself to post on your social media profiles, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you get images that rival those of your favourite celebrity.
